Summer Missions Fundraiser: A Call For Your Help!

Our missions team needs your hands! …And legs, and backs, and buckets, and hoses…

Next Saturday (June 16), the Summer Missions Team will be holding a Car Wash event at TCF Bank on Plymouth Road (near McDonald’s and Merchant of Vino). We invite you all to come and support our efforts by helping to wash cars to raise funds for our upcoming trip. We would also like to borrow your supplies (hoses, buckets, etc.). The more cars washed, the more funds raised which directly helps benefit the people we will be ministering to.

Please mark your calendar and come out ready to get soapy!

When: June 16, Saturday, 4-8pm (please arrive by 3:30pm)
Where: TCF Bank Parking Lot on Plymouth Road.

Please contact Hannah Jong to sign up and volunteer your efforts! (hjong1 at gmail.com)

Lynn Paik
I’m currently finishing up my second year of medical school at Michigan State University. My last experience with world missions was when I went to Guatemala with my youth group a little more than ten years ago. I’m very excited to see how God has been working in places I often don’t consider and the lessons I can take away from this experience. Hopefully participating in this trip will help shed some light on how God plans to use my medical skills in the future.

Here are some things to be in prayer about:

  • A loving attitude towards those we’ll be ministering to and serving.
  • Team unity despite being scattered geographically.
  • Preparing in the midst of a very busy time academically.
  • God’s protection for our physical health.
  • A teachable and humble heart.

Hannah Jong
Hello, my name is Hannah Jong. I am a student at the University of Michigan and I have just finished my second-year of college. I am pursuing my degree in Neuroscience and planning to further my education in the medical field. I have decided to be a part of this summer’s short-term mission team because I wanted to spend my summer investing my time in people. I felt that God was leading me to completely submit to Him this summer to see His love and power through His people in the Dominican Republic. I’m really excited to see what God has in store for our team and am looking forward to see how He’s
working in different parts of the world.

Prayer requests:

  • For me to be open and prepared for any challenges that may come so that God can fully use me as His instrument to be a witness to His people.
  • For me to let go of my pride and have a heart of service.
  • For me to build meaningful relationships with the people of DR.

Andi Song
I’ve been a member of the Ann Arbor community for about fifteen years, including my college years at U-M. In this timespan, I have been extremely blessed to see God building up the overseas partnership we have with our brothers and sisters in the Dominican Republic. The world outside our borders is, literally and figuratively, quite foreign to us and a place we seldom pause to think about. Yet God is alive and brings hope to the faithful in many visible ways, and sometimes it takes the absence of cellphones and the internet to see Him more clearly. This year will mark my third trip and I am looking forward to serving together with old friends and taking another opportunity to be used by God for His glory.

Prayer requests:

  • A humble heart that remains open to God’s agenda.
  • Diligence in leading the team in preparation and training.
  • Team unity and well-being during our travels.

Christine Kim
Hello, my name is Christine Kim. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2006 and have completed my first year of Pharmacy School (also at UofM) this past fall. I was blessed with the opportunity to serve and learn about God’s ministry in the Dominican Republic last summer. Although the trip was relatively short, I was humbled beyond words can describe. God was able to open my eyes to His work outside of the Ann Arbor world that I had become so comfortable in and to the greater purpose He has for me for the future and for my brothers and sisters in Ann Arbor. I’m excited about the experiences and lessons to be learned that lies ahead in the Dominican Republic.

Prayer requests:

  • To be able to bless the servants already hard at work in the Dominican Republic.
  • To a have a true heart for the youth we will encounter at the camp; and while language and cultural differences may make communicating difficult, I pray that our passion for God and our relationship with Him can be reflected through us and used to bless those that do not know Christ.
  • My health and endurance. Prior to leaving I will be serving at a youth camp here in Michigan and helping with the Ann Arbor VBS.
